MANUAL TEST FOR QUALITY WHEN BUYING SESAME SEEDS 2

2)      PURITY (98.5% Minimum):

Definition:
Purity refers to the wholesomeness of the seeds. The specification is that the seeds should be as clean as possible, i.e. at least 98.5% pure.

Manual Assessment
Importance
a)      Whole seeds
Whole seeds prevent them from turning rancid during storage/ shipment as well as preserve the quality of oil. Damaged seeds turn them rancid quickly and erode quality of the oil.

b)      Free of insects
Absence of insects prevents damage done to seed appearance, smell and taste by insects.  Damage to the seeds caused by insects, which aggravates during storage/shipment, erodes the quality (cleanness and oil content) of seeds.
c)       Clean seeds
To ensure absence of dirt, stones and other particles which reduce useful seeds in any given quantity purchased and cause processing complications.
